The business services what it sells with expertise.

A Reputation for Excellence

AFTER more than two decades of continuous operation, BJR Chain and Engineering Supplies has developed a reputation for excellence. BJR’s managing director, George Bugeja, said the company prides itself on its expertise, product knowledge and efficient service. ‘‘We know what we are talking about and if not, we are prepared to go out of our way to find out,’’ Mr Bugeja said.

BJR’s main objective is also to provide the most competitive prices in the market place where possible. The locally owned and operated business supplies a diverse range of products, offering 24-hour service when necessary.

The company has come a long way from a one-man operation to one which now employs ten people. Experience in products plays a big part in BJR. George has been in the industry for 30 years, Roger Rayner has about 20 years and Dallas Page has 12 years.

How it all began

George Bugeja started BJR Chain and Engineering Supplies with a mobile phone, an old ute as his office and a fax machine and some stock at his Penguin home in 1989.

Within six months, the business had grown and it had to find bigger premises. Mr Bugeja did a survey on the best location for an office and found Ulverstone’s central location between the two main cities of Burnie and Devonport was the ideal location to service all. After discussions with Bellchambers Bros Engineering in Short St, it was decided to rent a tin shed there till a new office was constructed.

‘‘At the time we moved into the new warehouse I felt it was far too large and had thoughts of renting out the back half,’’ he said. ‘‘However, within 12 months that area was also full.’’

After 13 years it became necessary to again move to larger premises. BJR has recently purchased a much lager warehouse in Trevor Street. The showroom itself is 4 times the size of the previous one in Short Street.

BJR Chain and Engineering Supplies managing director George Bugeja operates the business with his wife, director-secretary Therese Bugeja. To help them reach their goals, they have a skilled workforce.
